New Employee Orientation
Today I got to the AFC at 8 am for my UVA HR New Employee Orientation. Some of the information was things I already knew, like the history of the University and our traditions. Other information was quite over my head and I am very glad that at this point I have no dependents or other people to think of when making work related benefits decisions. Luckily, since I was a student employee before accepting this full-time position, my paperwork took a lot less time that most. After the first half of the information session, we had a break for lunch. Then we were supposed to go on a historical tour of grounds and finally end up at O-Hill to get our staff IDs made. While eating my sandwich, I was chatting with my new friend Paul and he suggested that since I had graduated from UVA, I should ask if I could skip the historical tour. I did ask and I was left to go to O-Hill by myself to get my new ID badge. I was really excited to get a staff ID but when they asked for my student ID they told me that it was going to be shredded. I know it's kind of stupid, but I was sad to see my student ID go. It would have been nice to keep.
